GET INVOLVED

This Work Takes All of Us.

Every pet that stays with their family does so because someone showed up. Volunteer your time. Open your home to a foster. Or fund the work that keeps families together. Pick the path that fits you.

THREE WAYS TO HELP

Find Your Role

We need people who care. That is it. No special credentials required.

V

Volunteer

Show up at events, answer the Pet Help Desk, transport animals, or help with community outreach. We have roles for every schedule and skill set.

F

Foster

Open your home to a shelter animal for 14 days. You provide the love and training. We provide everything else. Trained dogs get adopted 2 to 3 times faster.

D

Donate

Your dollars fund The Bridge, our crisis stabilization system that keeps families and pets together when they hit a rough patch. Every dollar has a measurable impact.

VOLUNTEER

Give Your Time. Change a Life.

We are a small team doing big work. Every volunteer hour directly supports a family trying to keep their pet.

1

Event Support

Help run Sniff and Greet adoption events, High-Impact Clinics, and community outreach days. Set up, greet families, manage sign-ins, and help things run smoothly.

Flexible schedule, event days
2

Pet Help Desk

Answer calls from families looking for help before they reach the point of surrender. You connect them to the right resource, whether that is food assistance, veterinary care, or behavioral support.

Phone or virtual, 2-4 hours per week
3

Transport and Delivery

Move supplies, food, and sometimes animals between shelters, foster homes, and families in crisis. A reliable vehicle and a willingness to drive are all you need.

As needed, varies by week
4

Community Outreach

Represent AAF at local events, distribute information, and build relationships with businesses, churches, and community groups across our seven-county service area.

Flexible, great for people-people
5

Administrative Support

Help with data entry, phone calls, social media, filing, or anything else that keeps the operation running. If you have office skills and a few hours, we can use you.

Remote or in-person, flexible hours
6

Special Skills

Photographer? Graphic designer? Web developer? Grant writer? Dog trainer? We can match your professional skills to a real need. Tell us what you do and we will find a fit.

FOSTER-TO-TRAIN

Open Your Home. Change a Life.

A shelter kennel is not a training facility. A home is. Fourteen days of real-world training in a real home transforms an animal's chances.

14-Day Program

A Trained Dog Gets Adopted Faster.

Dogs that go through Foster-to-Train move into permanent homes 2 to 3 times faster than dogs that wait in kennels. You provide the home and the consistency. We provide all the food, supplies, training guides, and direct support from our team, seven days a week.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before You Jump In

Do I need experience to volunteer?
+
No. We match you to a role based on your skills, availability, and interests. Training is provided for any role that needs it.
What is the time commitment for volunteers?
+
It depends on the role. Some roles ask for a few hours per week. Others are event-based and only happen a few times per month. We work with your schedule.
Do I need experience to foster?
+
No prior experience is required. We provide step-by-step training resources, video guides, and direct access to our support team throughout the 14-day period. The program is built for first-time fosters.
What if a foster placement does not work out?
+
Call our support line right away. We will help troubleshoot or arrange for the animal to go to a different foster home. Your comfort and the animal's welfare always come first.
Can I volunteer remotely?
+
Yes. Several roles including Pet Help Desk, administrative support, and some outreach work can be done from home. We are building a team, not filling a building.
I am outside your service area. Can I still help?
+
You can always donate. And if you are in animal welfare work elsewhere, ask about joining the Animal Welfare Resource Network (AWRN). We are building a connected national platform, not just a local program.
